Qurban & Aqiqah
A sacred tradition of sacrifice, gratitude, charity and drawing closer to Allah.
The Spirit of Qurban
Qurban is an act of worship performed by millions of Muslims worldwide during Eid Al-Adha, honoring the tradition (sunnah) of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.). It serves as a meaningful way to draw closer to Allah through sacrifice, gratitude, and charity.
Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "It is the sunnah of your father Ibrahim (A.S.). For every hair of the Qurban you will receive a reward from Allah, and for every strand in the wool you will receive a reward."
Ibn Majah & TirmidhiKey Guidelines for Qurban & Aqiqah
Timing for Qurban
The sacrifice must be performed on Eid Al-Adha or during the three days of Tashreeq (11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul Hijjah), strictly after the completion of the Eid prayer.
Distribution of Meat
The meat is traditionally divided into three parts: one part for the poor and needy, one part for family and relatives, and one part to be shared with friends and neighbours.
Aqiqah Services
Unlike Qurban, Aqiqah is a sunnah performed to welcome a newborn baby and can be conducted at any time before the child reaches puberty. The general practice involves sacrificing two lambs for a baby boy and one lamb for a baby girl.
